Something new

I know this seems to be out of a sudden, but I am now so bored waiting at the computer lab for my squash session. SO. I googled a picture of a similar shaped drug that I am going to make next week.

This blog seems to be so dead, I assume everyone's busy with their work and studies at this time. However, to update a bit more about myself *clears throat* I am going to make suppositories next week! Look : the picture above. Just to let you guys know what is suppositories, they are actually a type of medication where it is supposed to be inserted in your rectum or vagina to relieve bowel irritation, pyrexia etc etc. The guide and pictures on how are they supposed to be inserted are seriously gross. Eww I supposed the ones I am going to make next week are going to be coloured!

The actual size and shape of suppositories are not actually potrayed clearly as above. They are supposed to look long, cylindrical to make it easier to be inserted. Yea, that is the exactly the shape you're thinking right now. Looks wrong, but it's very practical.

So. Any updates about PM12s? Gatherings, celebrations of birthdays etc etc?

Hope to see you guys real soon!

XOXO,
LCY ^^

hey look! a post!

This is officially THE saddest blog in the world! Anyway I got something to tell you guys.

So as you know (if you don't then just pretend you do) my birthday is on December 1st. Thinking of doing something for it on the weekend either before it or after or maybe on a weekday. The 1st in a Monday.

Sooooo I need to know who (apart from the people who are thousands of miles away who obviously can't be there) can or can't make it during that week. It you can then let me know. If you can't then also let me know. If you said yes and then proceed to bail on me later, I'll say it now, I hate you!

Talk to you later munchkins! =) I know you all miss me!!!!!

Anatomical dissection of cadever, lesson 1

it's been a long time since i last wrote here, and i wonder how many of you still watch this space?

just got back from my first disecction of a cadever, obviously we don't get fresh bodies, the cadevers we get are mostly old, homeless people that died in the hospital and have not been claimed. so basically for each group of 6 you get 1 cadever.

the first thing you notice is the smell, because obviously they had to fix the body with formalin to preserve it, and we'll be using the same body for 1 year, and we'll be sharing it with the year 2 students.

this is definitely one of the things i don't want to happen to my earthly remains when i finally quit this world, about 200 years from now (wishful thinking never hurt anyone).

so for the first session, we only had to remove the skin from the thoraic region.
this was done by making a very shallow (just cutting the superficial fascia) incision in a sagittal line stretching from the suprasternal notch above the manubrium to the xiphoid process.

then we cut along the clavicle to the acromion and finally make a round cut around the arm.

the skin was removed, and then the subcutaneous adipose tissue (fat, ugh), and my cadever had the most adipose tissue in the whole lab, as in almost 1-1.5 centimetres thick.
after peeling the skin off, making a sort of windowlike sturcture, then we cut off the skin from the body completely by cutting along the midaxiallary line.

so now we get a clear view of the pectoralis major, the serratus anterior, and part of the deltoid.
and in the deltopectoral triangle (the groove between the deltoid and the superior end of the pectoralis major) we could see the cephalic vein.

basically that's it. and we're leaving it for the year 2s who are going to dissect the muscles.

general impressions:

it's hard to feel afraid of dead bodies in a well lit lab, with over 100 students in it

penises look gross after treating them with formalin, the scrotal sac looks worse, probably going to have nightmares.
ugh

zombie penises......... disgusting

formalin smells bad.

most of the cadevers are really thin, subcutaneous fat almost absent, it's just my luck to get the fat one, which entails the most work.
poor homeless people, at least your bodies will benefit science.

bye, got to go puke now =)

Asian Banks' exposure limited

Succeeding my earlier post, I find it obligatory to bring to your attention that Asian banks' exposure to the Lehman and AIG turmoil remain at a (thankfully) diminutive level. That said impact is still felt throughout but rest assured that reserve banks are taking neccessary precautions e.g. slashing interest rates, injecting funds into money markets etc.

Side note though: Ours hasn't taken any action, which implies that there are none to be taken in the first place. It is imperative that global sentiments stay positive in these times. Yes risk aversion would no doubt suggest a downward pressure for the market (flight to haven). But since BNM hasn't tinkered as aforementioned, the policy holders or general public shouldn't get flustered (those sgians big no-no).

Suffice to say that a smooth power transition, if any at all, should warrant more of the rakyat's attention.

Selamat Hari Raya!

p.s. Food prices to rise during festive season though.

Lehman's Insolvency

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=awh5hRyXkvs4&refer=us

Uhh boring i know but this is gonna take the world by storm. With potential rescue buyers abandoning ship and the Fed refusing to inject public funds, the 4th largest investment bank in U.S. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Brace yourselves, as this dramatic collapse will intensify the credit crunch and drive the global market to take a plunge. Much as i hate to admit, Malaysia will not be spared from the ripples.
